As an 8th grade English teacher, I am always looking for something to get my students excited about and engaged in learning. I use one of these proofreading exercises daily as a bell-ringer, and they love it. They enjoy coming in to see what crazy joke we have next. The exercises are just the right length to give them adequate practice, but not so long that it takes too much class time. This is truly one of the best books I have purchased.
I am a special education teacher and editing has been a difficult concept for my students. However, giving them these short, funny, and interesting stories has made things a lot easier on them and me.
Good book for English teachers--
I'm a Resource Specialist in Alternative Education and this is great for my students. They all need to build their skills in written expression. My students can't spend too much time on one exercise and so these short activities are perfect for their attention spans. Plus, the jokes keep them interested to get through them to the punch lines.
Quite a few of these entries make me giggle aloud - my students love them!
THIS BOOK IS DEFINITELY A WINNER. I READ SEVERAL PASSAGES THAT HAD ME CRACKING UP! THIS BOOK WILL CHANGE THE MOOD OF YOUR STUDENTS AND YOURSELF! IT CHANGE STUDENTS ATTITUDE ABOUT PROOFREADING BECAUSE THE STORIES ARE JUST THAT FUNNY! BUY THIS BOOK! IT'S WORTH EVERY PENNY!
Passages are entertaining, but are in a paragraph format that provides little space for actual line editing by students. A better format giving children the ability to actively edit the errors and write in corrections would be a more useful design approach.
